Here are some frequently asked questions about Frette bedding:
Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. At Frette, the thread count typically ranges from 200 to 600 TC. A higher thread count does not automatically mean better quality—the quality of the fibers and the weaving technique are very important, as is whether the yarn has been mercerized. In this process, the yarns are made extra smooth by burning away all the tiny protrusions. For example, a 400 TC Frette Percal feels more refined than a generic 800 TC sheet.
Wash your Frette sheets at a maximum of 60 degrees Celsius for white items and 40 degrees Celsius for colored bedding. Use a mild detergent that does not contain bleach or optical brighteners, preferably a liquid detergent, as this ensures the detergent is distributed most evenly. Avoid the dryer whenever possible—instead, let the bedding air dry to protect the fibers and extend its lifespan.
Long-staple cotton refers to cotton plants with extra-long fibers, such as Egyptian cotton or Supima. Longer fibers can be spun into finer threads, resulting in a stronger, softer, and more durable yarn. Frette uses only long-staple cotton for its collections, which explains their exceptional quality and softness.
A fitted sheet has elastic corners and is designed to fit snugly around the mattress. A top sheet is flat and is placed over the fitted sheet. In the Italian tradition—where Frette has its roots—the neatly folded top sheet is an essential part of the bed, tucked in tightly to create an elegant and exclusive hotel-like look.
